Salah Al Din Metro Station Dubai: Green Line, Routes and Nearby Places

by Today Khaleej

Salah Al Din Metro Station is a Dubai Metro station on the Green Line, serving the Deira area around Salah Al Din Street. The station is officially identified as G19 and sits between Abu Baker Al Siddique (G18) and Union (G20) on the current RTA network map.

Its prime benefit lies in the fact that it is part of one of the established commercial zones in Deira. There are also two other shopping malls situated on Salah Al Din Street: Al Ghurair Centre and Reef Mall. It also provides easy Green Line access to Union, the place where the Green and Red lines connect.

Station Location and Green Line Position

Salah Al Din is situated on Salah Al Din Street, Deira, Dubai. It has the code G19 on the current RTA metro map. The following stations around it are Abu Baker Al Siddique (G18) and Union (G20).

The station is therefore of particular relevance for users of the station travelling across northern and central Deira. It is helpful to consider it as a point of entry for the Green Line to the commercial area of Salah Al Din Street and its surrounding areas.

Green Line Route from Salah Al Din

Salah Al Din Metro Station Green Line platform with passengers and train access

The Green Line is the metro route that directly serves Salah Al Din. The current route of the Green Line on RTA is from E11 to Creek (G11 to G30, with Salah Al Din at G19).

Passengers headed towards Creek will pass through Union, Baniyas Square, Gold Souq, Al Ras, Al Ghubaiba, Sharaf DG, BurJuman, Oud Metha, Dubai Healthcare City, Al Jadaf, and Creek. Passengers travelling in the opposite direction pass through Abu Baker Al Siddique, Abu Hail, Al Qiyadah, Stadium, Abu Hail, and the northern Green Line stations as per the direction of travel on the present network.

Union is the most significant station on this line to transfer to other lines within Dubai.

Union Interchange

Union is R18/G20 on RTA’s map, which is marked as an interchange station between the Red Line and Green Line. The other Red–Green interchange is called BurJuman.

This is because the Salah al Din station is the initial station on the Red Line, and a person who travels from Salah Al Din station does not need to exit the metro to get on the Red Line. The best way is to take the Green Line to Union and follow the signage for the Red Line platform.

Red Line Connections

The Red Line runs a different route than the Green Line, with destinations like Deira City Centre, Al Rigga, BurJuman, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Mall, Business Bay, Mall of the Emirates, and further south. The Red Line is currently mapped from Centrepoint to Life Pharmacy/Expo 2020 by RTA.

The critical thing to remember is that Salah Al Din is not a Red Line station. When the destination is on the Red Line, the appropriate line to take is the Green Line to Union.

This distinction is helpful when making travel plans, as if a person travels by train directly from Salah Al Din, then they’ll walk in the wrong direction. Take the Green Line initially and transfer at Union as necessary.

Al Ghurair Centre Access

Al Ghurair Centre is one of the most significant places related to Salah Al Din station. According to the official information for the visitors of the mall, the stations of Union, Salah Al Din, and Al Rigga metro stations are all within walking distance.

This means that visitors have three metro choices that they can choose from, depending on where they are coming from. Salah Al Din is particularly useful for people coming from the Green Line, and Union and Al Rigga are other options from other lines of the metro system.

For passengers travelling from the Al Ghurair Centre, they should use the information provided in the mall as to which station entrance to use during their walk along Al Rigga Road in Deira.

Reef Mall and Salah Al Din Street

Another destination that is directly related is Reef Mall, which is located around the station. Its official website states that it’s located at 116 Salah Al Din St, Deira, Dubai, which is on the same major street where the station is located.

According to the mall, it is a community shopping center in the heart of Deira. With regard to a person traveling towards Reef Mall, the station is situated on the Salah Al Din corridor; therefore, it is a relevant station for that person; however, they should research the street layout and exit directions of the station to find out how to walk from the station to Reef Mall.

Station Access and Public Transport

Dubai Metro is connected to other RTA transport options, such as buses, taxis, and other public transportation options. RTA states that its metro service is integrated into the public transport system and offers journey planning services via its digital service.

When traveling from Salah Al Din, the best way is to check the complete travel plan, as the metro station is not always the final stop. If the destination is further away from the station, then it is sometimes pertinent to have a nearby bus or taxi service.

RTA’s journey-planning is a system that enables passengers to choose a journey start point and destination, and a transport mode such as metro, bus, tram or marine transport.

Metro Operating Hours

As per the current timetable, all Dubai Metro lines will be open at regular hours as below:

  • Monday to Thursday: 5:00 AM–12:00 AM
  • Friday: 5:00 AM–1:00 AM the next day
  • Saturday: 5:00 AM–12:00 AM
  • Sunday: 8:00 AM–12:00 AM

Current Regular Station Opening Hours as announced by RTA. Do not assume they are a guarantee that all trains will arrive at the time specified, especially when using a transfer.

RTA also says that the holiday and special occasion timetables are different and passengers should refer to the latest RTA timetable instead of the standard timetable when travelling during public holidays or special occasions.

Using Nol at the Station

NOL Card held at a Metro station before travel

Normal Dubai Metro travel will require a Nol card. RTA says the card will be used to enter at the terminal and leave at the point of arrival, and the fare will be determined by the zone(s) traversed.

For the time being, RTA has announced that passengers must have a minimum balance of AED 7.50 while using the Metro. The card must be tapped into the reader at check-in and then tapped out at check-out; otherwise, it may have an impact on the calculation of the journey.

Current Metro Fares

RTA publishes a fare schedule according to the number of zones traversed. Regular Silver and Personal Nol cards have the following prices: AED 3 in one zone, AED 5 in two neighboring zones, and AED 7.50 for zones over two. The concession categories have specific rules, and the Gold fares are higher.

Journey Silver / Personal Gold
Within 1 zone AED 3 AED 6
2 adjacent zones AED 5 AED 10
More than 2 zones AED 7.50 AED 15

The fare is based on the actual journey, not just the starting station. There are also concession and exclusive products for eligible passengers offered by RTA.

What Makes This Station Useful

The most practical benefits of Salah Al Din are its Deira base, Green Line access, and its close proximity to established shopping districts.

It is directly connected to the Salah Al Din Street area for Green Line passengers without a transfer. Passengers continuing to the Red Line will find another Green Line station, Union, nearby to make the interchange.

The station also has broader significance in the public transport network in Dubai. RTA said Salah Al Din was one of the Green Line’s busier stations last year, with 5.3 million users in 2022, which was lower than the other higher-ridership stations of Sharaf DG, Baniyas and Stadium last year. It is important to note its role in the Green Line, though it is not a current ridership figure, given this historical figure.

Choosing Between Salah Al Din, Union and Al Rigga

It is possible to have more than one of these – Salah Al Din, Union, Al Rigga – as relevant when travelling around central Deira, but they are not the same thing.

The direct connection to the Salah Al Din Street area is through a green line called Salah Al Din. A Red Line interchange is more important for Union. Al Rigga is a Red Line station and may be an easier one to travel to if you want to go to a station further along the Red Line. At the moment, RTA’s map shows “Union” as R18/G20 and Al Rigga as R17.

However, visitors might find different recommendations for the same shopping destination since Al Ghurair Centre explicitly lists all three stations as walkable.

The most appropriate solution then will be determined by the origin, the line, and the end point, and not only by the name of the nearby shopping centre.

Recent Road Access Around Salah Al Din Street

Salah Al Din Street is also linked to Dubai’s extensive road network. RTA in September 2026 announced enhancements to traffic at Al Qiyadah Intersection, with regard to traffic movements towards Abu Hail Street and Salah Al Din Street. The project included a new lane from Al Ittihad Road towards Abu Hail and Salah Al Din Streets and changes to the intersection layout and traffic signals.

This is only significant for metro users if used in conjunction with other modes of transport. The time for taxi or private hire connection around Deira can vary depending on the traffic conditions, even if the pick-up and drop-off at the metro is simple. Planning a journey from Salah Al Din.

Planning a Journey from Salah Al Din

A simple route-planning process avoids most mistakes:

  1. Check the destination’s metro line. If it is on the Green Line, a direct journey may be possible.
  2. Use Union for a Red Line transfer. RTA identifies Union as one of the two Red–Green interchange stations.
  3. Check the Nol balance before entering. RTA requires at least AED 7.50 for Metro use.
  4. Check the current timetable for late or holiday travel. Regular station hours do not necessarily apply to special occasions.
  5. Use RTA’s journey planner when the destination is away from a station. It can combine different public transport modes in the route search.

This approach is more reliable than choosing a station solely because its name appears close to the destination.

Important Distinctions Before Using the Station

The first difference is the Green Line identity. The G19 and G20 are the two stations of the Green and Red lines, respectively, that are named Salah Al Din and Union.

The second one is the distinction between “proximity” and “direct service. For passengers from certain starting lines, a shorter route to Salah Al Din may be available via Union or Al Rigga. Al Ghurair Centre is a clear example, as it advertises all three stations, with the official information stating that they are walkable.

The third is the difference between regular operating hours and special schedules. RTA runs a regular timetable, but makes special arrangements for holidays and special events. For late-night travel, it is really crucial to consult the RTA timetable.

Conclusion

Salah Al Din is a Green Line metro station in Deira, identified by RTA as G19. Its main practical value comes from its position on Salah Al Din Street, access to destinations such as Al Ghurair Centre and Reef Mall, and its close connection to Union, the Green–Red interchange.

Most trips are simple, use Salah Al Din if your destination is located in the Green Line and the surrounding Deira area, use Union if you wish to change to the Red Line, and consult RTA’s current timetable and nol before travelling. That makes the route easy without spoiling the lines of the nearby stations and also is not based on the premise that all destinations in Deira can be accessed from the same station.
